Gordon Merten of Hart Township was named Citizen of the Year for 2022 by the Hart Rotary Club. Gordon was honored for his long-standing work with “Meals on Wheels” delivering meals and assessing the food needs of elderly folks in Oceana County. He is also active in the Oceana Center Grange distributing dictionaries to all the 3rd graders in Oceana County. In addition Gordon maintains the “water trough” on Polk Road, cutting grass and planting flowers. He is also the Eucharistic minister at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, taking communion to home-bound parishioners.
Today Club President Austin Garcia welcomed District Governor Paul Heroman to the club. He talked about the 2022-2023 theme and logo, Imagine Rotary, which represents the key elements of Rotary while honoring the Indigenous culture. He also participated in the induction of our newest member, Kris Jordal. Welcome to both of you!
Today the Club welcomed Jackie Hallberg, representing Mediation & Restorative Services. She spoke about the services which it provides for four counties including an alternative for the resolution of disputes.
On Saturday, September 25th members of the Hart Rotary Club picked up trash along US31 continuing a long held tradition. The Club signed up for the initial year of the State of Michigan program in 1990 and has continued picking up trash for 31 years! That’s a lot of beer cans!
